The fort of Civitella del Tronto is one of the most imposing works of military engineering: in fact it extends for more than 500 m on a rocky ridge. All its history is linked to its strategic position, since this fortress was located on the northern borders of various kingdoms of Naples. The fort and the surrounding village received more sieges, but what made the fortress famous was the unlucky defense sustained against the Sardinian and Piedmontese army in 1860-1861, finished with the defeat of the fortress on March 20th 1861, the last Bourbon stronghold to give way to the rising Italian union.

GOLE DEL SALINELLO

A natural environment, which connects history, culture and nature between the two slopes of the Twin Mountains: “Montagna di Campli” and “Montagna dei Fiori”. Author of this natural monument was the torrent “Salinello”, that with its influence over the entire mountain, created in millions of years a few kilometers long gorge, 200 m high and from 5 to more than 10 meters large, determining waterfalls, caves and cavities.

Over the year 1400 Teramo was dismembered by the wars over the families of Melatini, Antonelli, Spennati and Mazzaclocchi.
